In parts of Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), heavy rains have left a trail of death and destruction. More than 350 lives have perished as a result of flash flooding. Among the dead are 30 children whose families are dealing with immense grief on top of the loss of livelihood, shelter, and necessities. Buner district, which has been the epicenter of this disaster, has witnessed the greatest fatalities. Rehabilitation and relief efforts are underway by the Edhi Foundation. According to Pakistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), more rain is expected in the coming days, which is likely to hamper search and rescue operations and complicate aid delivery. Entire homes have been wiped out, displacing thousands of victims who are now wholly dependent on aid to survive. This has been dubbed the worst disaster after the 2022 floods.
